The SOAAR 2019 committee is largely made up of members of the We Agnostics group in Hamilton. There are also committee members from a group in Burlington (The Today Group), Mississauga (Beyond Belief Suburban West) and Windsor (All Are Welcome).
Given that the first two words of the roundup are Secular and Ontario, the committee welcomes suggestions from ALL Ontario secular AA groups and makes special efforts to encourage such participation.
And just how many secular AA groups are there in Ontario?
As of today there are seventeen. The one furthest north is in North Bay (We Agnostics), furthest south and west is in Windsor (All Are Welcome) and the one furthest east is in Ottawa (The Sobriety Group).
We hope that all of these groups will be at the roundup on September 7, 2019! We are distributing a “Share the Date” business card – created by Dale and with a picture of Hamilton by Robin, two SOAAR committee members – as widely as possible to all AA members and groups in Ontario.
Indeed, in the spirit of the Responsibility Declaration (“when anyone, anywhere reaches out for help, we want the hand of AA to be there”) we want our biennial gathering to be open (and an inspiration) to every single AA member. And not just in Ontario: at the SOAAR 2017 roundup in Toronto, there were folks from Chicago, Michigan and even Northern California.
As we prepare for the upcoming roundup, the committee meets once a month. We do that to work out the timetable, the agenda, the food to be served… In the meantime, should you wish to contact us you can either meet some of us in person at our Thursday night meeting at the First Unitarian Church in Hamilton or: you can send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
See you – we hope – at the Roundup!
